Bringing happiness from China

“Hi, it’s Stacy!” So begins every morning announcement at Walsh Jesuit. Xiaozhang, a.k.a. Stacy, is a junior Chinese exchange student. She chose Stacy as her American name because in Chinese it means “to bring happiness.” Stacy explained, “I want to bring happiness to people in the morning on the announcements. I like saying ‘Happy Friday’ to make people excited.” While thoroughly enjoying her time on the PA, she admitted, “I need to improve a lot so people can understand me better on the announcements.”

Wanting to expand her participation in school activities, she wishes she could play soccer, but there is a rule stating she can only practice since she is from another country. When asked about what she misses most about China she immediately responded, “The food; it tastes very different here. The Chinese food [made in America] tastes nothing like China’s food.”

After high school she would like to go to college in America but does not know what she wants to do after that.
