To binge watch or not to binge watch?

Alyssa Piazza, Staff Writer

Whether you spend Christmas break with friends and family, working, or shopping, you probably will be super bored at one point or another. There is arguably no better way to cure this dullness of spirit than to binge watch a season or more of a TV series. Below are five shows WJ students recommend for marathon sessions over the break.

Narcos

“Narcos” is a “biography crime drama” that follows the activities of several drug lords, such as the notorious Pablo Escobar. The show is set in Colombia and portrays famous drug kingpins encountering other drug lords and the DEA. Collin Snyder, a freshman, enjoys bingeing the show because “the plot is good.” All three seasons of “Narcos” are available on Netflix.

Arrow

“Arrow” is described by Matt Volpe, ’19, as being “about a man named Oliver Queen who crashed [his] yacht and ended up on a deserted island for five years. He came back a changed man who hunted down bad guys as a vigilante…. Together [with his team consisting of Felicity Smoak and John Diggle], he fights the crime of the central city, coming into a few challenges along the way.” The show can be found on Netflix, the CW app, and Amazon Prime Video.

Saved by the Bell

Set in the ‘80s and ‘90s, “Saved by the Bell” follows the lives of high school friends Zack Morris, A.C. Slater, Kelly Kapowski, Jessie Spano, Lisa Turtle, and Screech Powers. “Saved by the Bell” depicts the love interests within the friend group and all of the trouble the six encounter in high school. Sophomore Kylie Piazza likes the show because she can watch it for hours without getting bored. All five seasons of “Saved by the Bell” are available to binge watch on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.

Gilmore Girls

Corinne Nykaza, a senior, describes “Gilmore Girls” as “the classic story of a single-mother/ daughter duo. The show goes through their lives as the daughter, named Rory, goes through high school and college.” Corinne likes the dram-com because it “is a fun show that everyone will fall in love with.” Students with a Netflix or Amazon Prime Video can also fall in love with “Gilmore Girls” this Christmas Break.

Wild ‘N Out

“Wild ‘N Out” is a comedy on MTV hosted by Nick Cannon and pits two freestyle rap teams against each other. Guest celebrities such as rapper Lil Yachty and talk show host Wendy Williams make appearances on each episode. Sophomore Josh Fouche loves watching the show because it has him “crying every time [he] watches it.” Amazon Prime Video or the MTV app are home to the hilarious reality show “Wild ‘N Out.”

Disclaimer: Binge watching may lead to extreme hunger, weight gain (or loss), drowsiness (or insomnia), or a loss of perception of what is happening in the real world. If symptoms occur, immediately turn off your TV and call a friend.
