As fall settles in and the nights creep up a little faster, students are turning to their favorite films to capture the spirit of the Halloween season. From classic horror to lighthearted comedies, movies have become one of the most fun and memorable ways to celebrate fall’s cozy, and sometimes creepy, vibe.
“One of my favorite things about fall is cozying up and watching a couple of favorite movies with friends. Sometimes I like scary movies. Sometimes I like movies that are a little more lighthearted,” shared senior Morgan Gale. For students like her, October nights are made for good stories, a cozy couch, popcorn, and a mix of chills and comfort on the screen.
While some can handle a good scare, others lean toward a lighter vibe. “My favorite movie is Hocus Pocus because I’m not into scary movies and it makes me festive without the scare,” shared senior Malorie Rybka.
Not everyone, however, wants to avoid the adrenaline rush of sheer horror. Senior Brynn Mineard said, “Halloween is the scariest movie I have ever watched because it’s so crazily graphic.” Horror classics like Halloween and Scream continue to draw fans who love a good thrill during the spooky season.
Some students take their spooky viewing to a whole new level, especially those who live for horror. Junior Connor Lohan, who calls himself an all-things-horror enthusiast, said, “My favorite Halloween movie of all time is the original 1978 Halloween. It’s not only really scary, but it also inspired the entire slasher era, movies like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Halloween started it all, and it’s my ultimate favorite.” He also shared that, “When it comes to scary movie series, my favorite has to be Scream. That’s the absolute best. My favorite newer series is The Conjuring, it’s such a scary franchise, and it’s new.”
But not every student wants to sleep with the lights on. For some, the fall spooky season is better served with laughs than screams.
“I really don’t like the super scary movies. I’d rather just laugh,” said junior Caleb Buckner. “One of my favorites is Scary Movie because it’s such a funny parody. I love any good spoof of the horror genre. Basically, I’d rather laugh than get scared.”

What a fun article! I do not like being scared, so the only one I watch is Hocus Pocus. Thanks for your work on this.
