Jesuit Vocations Month

Because November is Jesuit Vocations Month, it is important not only to appreciate those in our school community who have chosen this path, but also to ask ourselves if we too might be called to a life of service to others for God’s greater glory. Are you called to consider religious life or the priesthood?

Please spend a few moments checking out this page to learn more about the five Jesuits in our school community, photographed above, and then follow the link to BeAJesuit.org to learn more!

Mr. Nicholas Albin, S.J. – Mathematics and Theology Departments

What do you love about your Jesuit Vocation?

“I really love the transformative model of Jesuit education where students are educated intellectually, morally, and spiritually.”

How has your vocation enriched your life and brought you closer to God.

The opportunity to be at Walsh, and to work with students and staff gives me joy and is a big highlight of my life.

Fr. Mark Carr, S.J. – Principal

What do you love about your Jesuit vocation?

“I sometimes look at my life in the context of 2 Timothy 4:11, ‘get Mark and bring him with you, for he is helpful to me.’ I have sometimes found myself being asked to do the unexpected, but wherever I’m asked to go and whatever I’m asked to do is, I believe, always at the service of Christ.”

How has your vocation enriched your life and brought you closer to God?

“A life lived well will always have challenges. Challenges help us grow. I’ve been challenged as a Jesuit; none of the challenges caused me to question my vocation.”

Fr. Paul O’Connor S.J. – Theology Department

What do you love about your Jesuit vocation?

“What I love most about being a Jesuit at Walsh Jesuit is getting to know what brings our students and faculty joy and listening to people’s stories.”

How has your vocation enriched your life and brought you closer to God?

One thing that I’ve learned in life is to always stay open to where God may be leading us, even if it seems completely outlandish. You may have heard the phrase, ‘the best way to make God laugh is to tell God your plans.’”

Fr. Don Petkash, S.J.  –  Director, Mission and Identity and Rector of Jesuit Community

What do you love about your Jesuit vocation?

I love how my Jesuit vocation has been filled with surprises. God is always surprising me in his calls to engage in work I never dreamed I’d do.”

How has your vocation enriched your life and brought you closer to God?

“The people with whom I have lived, worked, laughed, and cried have enriched my life tremendously. They have taught me about God and enlivened my faith life.”

Fr. Ken Styles, S.J. – Mission and Identity, Tutor, and JRS Action Team

What do you love about your Jesuit Vocation?

“I am happy helping others reflect on God’s love for them and his desire that they live meaningful lives. I am also honored to be there when life is difficult for people; I can be there with them as they try to work their way through their problems.”

How has your vocation enriched your life and brought you closer to God?

“I get inspired by those I live with. I see how hard they try to reach out and serve. This encourages me to keep on task and remain focused in my vocation.”
