Our student athletes delivered an impressive fall season marked by playoff runs, record-breaking performances, and strong leadership across the board. From the cross-country trails to the soccer pitch and golf courses, Warrior teams demonstrated consistent growth, resilience, and a commitment to making the WJ shine brightly. Together, they set a high standard for what it means to compete as a Warrior and have made us all proud to wear the maroon and gold!
Boys’ Cross Country
The boys’ cross-country team came in hot this season and made a strong showing at their home invitational, finishing fifth. Caleb Hamilton and Christian Kenny led the way, placing 12th and 21st, respectively, and earning individual honors. Grant Cotter, Ryan Sagun, and Patrick Warzack rounded out the scoring five, helping the Warriors build momentum for the future. Sophomore Ben Shragg summed up the grind best, saying, “The practices were tough, especially in the rain or cold, but it all pays off.”
Girls’ Cross Country
The girls’ cross-country team came ready to work in 2025, with junior Caroline Marrone setting the pace. Marrone excelled all season and capped her year by qualifying for the OHSAA State Championship, where she finished 70th out of 216 runners in 19:38, one of her top times of the year. The rest of the squad delivered solid performances throughout the fall, placing highly at several meets and laying a strong foundation for next season.

Boys’ Soccer
The boys’ soccer team turned in another standout campaign, finishing 14–3–4 and bringing home another district championship. Captains Freddy Marcell, Colin Locigno, Quinn Anderson, and Josh Novak led a deep and balanced roster that combined a stingy defense with an explosive attack. After last year’s success, the Warriors knew they needed to make a statement again in 2025. Junior Colin Cleary states, “Very successful. We did better than last year, which was amazing. I am excited for next season and what’s in store for us”.
This fall, senior goalkeeper Quinn Anderson earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors from the Greater Akron Soccer Coaches Association. Reflecting on the award, Anderson said, “Winning Goalkeeper of the Year means a lot to me. It represents four years of really hard work, and I’m proud of everything I put into getting here.”
Head coach Tony Catanzarite was named Coach of the Year as the program continued its long tradition of postseason excellence.
Girls’ Soccer
The girls’ soccer team had a great season, finishing 12–7–1 overall while taking on a challenging slate of opponents. The Warriors earned key wins over Jackson, Hathaway Brown, Kenston, and Magnificat, and they surged in the postseason with a dominant 9–0 playoff victory over Euclid, followed by a 4–1 win over Berea-Midpark in the district tournament.
Reflecting on the season’s growth, Emilia Pajkic ’27 said, “ I would say this year was very educational. we learned a lot about ourselves and each other and I’m very excited to see what we do next year.” With a wealth of talent returning, the program’s future looks promising.
Football
The football team delivered one of the most memorable seasons in recent school history, finishing 11–2 and advancing to the OHSAA Division II state semifinals. The Warriors’ only losses came against Archbishop Hoban in the regular season and Avon in the state semifinals, with a statement regional final win over Hoban in between.

The team was led by playmakers Milan Parris (“8”), Marty Tobin (“5”), and quarterback David Ternosky (“12”), all of whom played key roles in the Warriors’ explosive offense and team culture. Milan has committed to continue his football career at Miami University, and Marty will play at Youngstown State.
Ternosky described what made the group special, saying, “The culture of our team is something that is unmatched and we continue to show that every year.”
Girls’ Volleyball
The women’s volleyball team navigated a demanding schedule and finished 13–10, closing strong by winning three of their last four regular-season matches. Led by senior Madeline Solomon and junior Ava Brumfield, the Warriors found their rhythm as the season progressed and carried that momentum into the postseason. Brumfield captured the team’s growth, saying, “This season we built our culture, grew as a team, and showed everyone who we really are.”
Field Hockey
The 2025 field hockey season featured a mix of challenges and impressive wins as Walsh Jesuit finished 7–8 overall and 5–6 in conference play. The Warriors secured victories over Stow-Munroe Falls, Orange, Kent Roosevelt, Maumee Valley Country Day, Western Reserve Academy, and Hathaway Brown, among others, while facing tough tests from programs like Shaker Heights and Hawken. Despite the up-and-down record, the team showed resilience and a strong bond, giving them momentum as they look ahead to next season.

Girls’ Tennis
The girls’ tennis team finished the season 2–4, but their record only tells part of the story. The Warriors started off the season with grit, pushing early matches to deciding sets and refusing to back down against strong opponents. Late in the year, they broke through with a close win over CVCA, advancing to districts. Some key players were Brooke Fratantonio, Claire Gardner, and the doubles duo of Allie Gauer and Allyson Shannon. Despite the record, the girls put up a fight and earned respect across the net.
Boys’ Golf
The boys’ varsity golf team delivered another impressive season, showcasing both consistency and high ceilings on the links. Captains Anthony Spain and Ryan Czenszak, both seniors, led the Warriors to eight tournament wins and two new school records, including victories at events hosted by Brunswick, Green, and Stonewater.
Junior Mossimo Russo captured the team’s mentality, saying, “I didn’t play perfect golf this year but I showed up every single day the work put in was the real win”.

Girls’ Golf
Walsh Jesuit’s girls’ golf program continued its dominant stretch in 2025. Led by senior captains Colleen Stadler and Gianna Rodenhauser, the Warriors won the sectional championship with a score of 294 and then finished fourth at the OHSAA State Tournament, marking an incredible finish to a redemption season for the team.
Stadler reflected on her senior year, saying, “I’m really proud that we finished fourth at states this year. It felt like a redemption year for all of us, and as a senior, it meant a lot to end on such a positive note. I’ve loved playing with this team for four years, and I’m definitely going to miss competing with them.”
All season long, Walsh placed in the top four at every tournament, and junior Yumi Kohara added, “our team was very strong this year, and we started out our season with a win and continued to play very well in all of our tournaments, placing in the top 4 for every single one. We placed second in the district qualifier, and we’re very proud to have qualified for the state championship for two years in a row!”
