Talent Show 2018

A night of music and delightfully corny jokes

“How do you have a party in space? You have to plan-et.” So began Camden Pace, emcee along with fellow senior Gavin Gronowski, during the annual Talent Show on February 16.

The audience in the theater went wild as the two jokesters hosting provided groaner puns and jokes to transition from one act to the next.

The Talent Show opened with WJ’s Harmony Gold Show Choir, which performed a number from this year’s program “Harmony Gold Tiki Room,” a beach-themed show.

Senior emcees Gavin Gronowski and Camden Pace helped create a wonderful evening which showcased student talent on February 16.

Senior show choir member Caitlin Drake shared, “My favorite part about performing is having fun onstage doing what I love, and seeing how the audience reacts to what is going on onstage.”

The night’s entertainment consisted of eighteen total acts, all of which involved singing. Some were duets or trios, while some included one or more individuals playing a musical instrument.

Junior Jackie Ward, lead singer of the group Jumbo Shrimp, observed, “The talent show is great because, even though there are winners, it’s not about what place you get, it’s about having a good time and having an opportunity to showcase your talents to your peers.”

The three staff and faculty judges awarded First Place to senior Kaitlyn Gabric, who performed “Stonecold” by Machineheart. After accepting her award, Gabric commented, “I did not expect to win, and I almost didn’t do the talent show!”

The show ended with a duet by seniors Sam Matonis and Tom Mullen performing a fan favorite from SpongeBob, “The Grille is not a Home.” After an excited audience chanted “Encore,” the duet went on to perform “Gary Come Home.”

“It’s just a greasy spoon,” the audience sang as the curtains closed one last time.
